After high school, I was ready for a change and was eager to learn something new. I knew that I wanted to help people but wasn’t sure where my studies would lead me. I decided to take a few different courses my first year of university and that’s where I couldn’t get enough of learning about communication disorders and wanted to continue my learning! I completed a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics (Communication Disorders Stream) and a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology (2004). I have dedicated my career to helping children and young adults with a variety of communication difficulties including literacy, articulation, oral placement, expressive and/or receptive language disorders/delay, stuttering, Autism, Selective Mutism and Down Syndrome. I have gathered experience working in a variety of settings both for the Ministry of Health and privately. Having worked in both settings, I feel I have a great understanding of the preschool and school aged speech-language system to be able to help parents navigate services.

In addition to providing services to children and young adults with speech and language goals, I most recently have found a passion for helping children with social learning challenges. I learned about the Social Thinking methodology for helping children with social communication and executive functioning challenges. I attended a conference and presentations by the creator, Michelle Garcia Winner in Tacoma, Washington in 2015 where I learned assessment and treatment approaches for the Social Thinking approach.

This profession allows me the opportunity to be a part an individual’s journey in gaining better communication skills whether they have a large or small impact on their daily life. It definitely warms my heart either way!
